Mercedes S-Class AMG
Mercedes has come up with its new S63 and S65 super limos. They're not intensely dissimilar to before, but one can't really go erroneous with a pair of shiny luxo supercars with well over 1,000bhp among them.
To be precise 1,137bhp.the S63 is power-driven by a 6.2-litre V8 putting out 525bhp and 465lb ft of torque, ideal for a 0-60mph time of around four and a half seconds and to 155mph a top speed limit.
If that's still a bit behind for one, the S65 - equipped with its 6.0-litre V12 - manages 738lb ft and 612bhp of torque, and will peg the 0-60mph sprint in well nigh four seconds dead.
Fuel consumption on both cars has been fractionally improved thanks to slip pier aerodynamics, though one will struggle in either to top 20mpg.
Exhilarating new tech includes the Torque Vectoring Brake, where the inside rear wheel can be slowed down autonomously of the outside rear wheel to avoid under steer, and a function of crosswind stabilization which keeps the S-Class to track straight ahead when buffeted sidewise.
Presence of the new night vision infrared camera can spot pedestrians in the road well ahead before the driver can spot.
Visually, the mainly prominent changes are a spangle new set of rear LED lights along with a pointier grille, but the AMG S still does the discreet, incredibly quick thing better than nearly anything else.
No comments on UK price tag yet, but expect them to remain comparable to the gregarious models, around £100,000 for S63 and £150,000 for S65.
